About
About the Capriolo Alto – Lightweight Hiking Boot
First and foremost, the Capriolo Alto is made from flat grain leather, offering the water resistance of full-grain leather with added flexibility thanks to the textured finish. In comparison to suede, this full-grain leather will not take on water, allowing mud to easily and freely wash off the boot. While remaining incredibly lightweight, at only 1.07kg a pair.
Designed to tackle wet and muddy conditions, the outsole has been stepped up to a new release from Vibram®, the 1444 Pepe. Maintaining the flexibility and foot feel of our Capriolos was of the highest importance, something the 1444 Pepe offers thanks to its low-profile design, but with deeper lugs for added grip in wet and muddy conditions. Paired with the same thickness of micro midsole, we’re glad to say the overall ride of our Capriolos has been distilled in the Alto, with the benefit of enhanced grip.
Finally, the height of the Alto has been increased by 1” compared to the classic Capriolo, bringing with it increased ankle support for when the going gets tough. Finished with a fully waterproof Sympatex® lining for protection from the elements, the Capriolo Alto is a truly capable year-round hiking boot with an easygoing and unintrusive ride.
Fitting
Thanks to an extended lacing pattern which laces all the way down to your toe. The Capriolo is very versatile in its width adjustment. When you first fit your Capriolos, make sure to fully loosen off your laces all the way down to the toe. This will allow the width to settle to the shape of your foot for the perfect fit.
Ultra-Light Yet Tough
With the Capriolos quickly becoming a fan favourite after their release in 2020, we have been working away over the last year to develop a built-up version, the Capriolo Alto. With the Capriolo revered for its ultra-lightweight and highly flexible design, we wanted to make a boot that stayed true to the roots of the Capriolo, but more equipped to when conditions take a turn.

I drive, holiday, mountain walk, visit leisure/country attractions and potter around town a lot in the UK (particularly Scotland). We cover a lot of miles on foot over a variety of terrains. I need footwear that can go seamlessly from one activity to another in comfort and still tough it out and be serviceable, and not leave me desperate to get them off as soon as possible.
After seeing an ad for these beauts I decided to try a pair..
I’m blown away!! Stunning boots. They prove it IS possible to make footwear with all these qualities. They do EXACTLY what Brandecosse say they will:
Comfy as slippers (put ’em on, tighten the adjustable lacing to suit, swagger round the block a few times and you’ll be getting into bed with them on because you’ll’ve forgotten you’re wearing them.)
Waterproof-yup!
Light and flexible (good for driving-no muscle fatigue and good ‘feedback through soles from pedals and ground when walking)
Leather- cleanable and serviceable so should last a few years as well as add to water repellency.
Re-soleable- Good.
Last but not least; I was a little nervous about paying so much for a pair of vibram shod boots having had so many bad experiences in the past with them becoming slick in wet conditions…I needn’t have been: These belters have stuck to wet surfaces (rock, metal and wood) as well as any SRC rated soles on other footwear I have worn.
These are great boots. Thanks for the attention to quality and detail Brandecosse! Now to save up for a pair of Capriolos for summer.

Brilliant boots! Comfortable, neat, tough, warm and waterproof. Fabulous combination of Italian design and workmanship and definitely worth the expense…

Best hiking boots I have had the pleasure to own . Lightweight and totally waterproof they have been worn twice a day since I got them can’t fault them

I did a few day walks to wear the Alto’s in (not that they really required any wearing in) and have now completed 3 weeks summer day pack hiking in the Swiss and Austrian alps. The boots have coped with rain, mud, ice and thankfully warm sunny days and they are the best all round boots I have had to date (and I have tried lots of different brands). They are light and flexible, which suits my arthritic feet, while still providing support and protection. The lacing system does allow for lots of adjustment and I do find I need to loosen or tighten the laces depending on the track – in a perfect world they would be easier to adjust as the laces do ‘stick’ in position, but on the other hand they do hold their position well. And they polish up nicely after a battering. I do use the after market super feet comfort insoles which work best for me.
