About

About the Brontolare – Mid-ankle walking boots

The Brontolare 9” is the mid-ankle boot choice in our Norwegian Welted range. With a full grain leather 9” upper, the Brontolare hits a perfect balance between wearability and protection. Offering high levels of ankle support for tackling uneven terrain with heavy loads or all day comfort on a chilly day in the field. Versatility is the name of the game with the Brontolare 9” walking boot.

Hand-made in the Italian Dolomites, the Brontolare has a strong heritage as an alpine walking boot. Utilising only the finest 2.8mm full grain hydrophobic leather forming a classic one piece vamp for unrivalled support and longevity. Making for the ideal option for everyday walking, hill walks and long-distance paths and trails year after year.

Comprising a classic double stitched Norwegian welted outsole construction. Which is not only well known for its durability and lightweight nature, but also provides a wider platform for increased stability. Alongside the ability to fully re-sole your walking boots. AVibram® Teton paired with a shock-absorbing PU midsole offer offers high levels of traction, comfort and performance across varied terrain in all weather conditions. All in all, these country boots feel lighter on the foot than many other boots of its stature. While ensuring the level of performance and longevity expected from a Brandecosse boot.

Internally, a fully waterproof and optimally breathable Sympatex® H2Out lining ensures reliable waterproofing and breathability to keep you comfortable in challenging conditions.

Wide Fitting

While our whole weltedrange is build on a wide fitting last, the Brontolare models boast and extra wide toe box for those that require a little added room. With all the same hallmarks as the rest of our welted range, with 2.8mm full grain leather, a fully waterproof Symaptex membrane and a replaceable Vibram Teton outsole thanks to a classic Norwegian welted construction.

These are extremely comfortable boots. There was virtually no break in period. I applied 7 coats of Safir polish, and are not only a very great looking boot, but supple as well. They are a great value, I cannot fathom, why some people consider them pricey!

My first ever job was working in the sample department of a large footwear factory so I know how boots are made & what to look out for in terms of materials & workmanship. I’ve had my Brontelare for a few years now & they’ve been well worth the money. Still look like new. They’ve been through at least 3 game seasons & they’ve withstood the drives where I’ve been waiting in bogs & standing in the middle of burns while the snow settles. As long as the water or mud doesn’t go above the high gusset your feet remain bone dry & warm. And they clean up really well – even if it’s caked on. Great customer service too – I found my first order a bit small so, after a quick phone call, a replacement pair was arranged without fuss. Look after these boots & they’ll look after you.

I’ve only had these for a few days but I’ve done sustained walking in them straight aways of up to 2hrs at a time, they fit perfectly, they don’t seem to need breaking in and are comfortable straight from the box.
I’ve been having hip pain and these seem to have resolved that in just a few days wearing.
They are a beautiful boot, there’s no stitching at the locations that I usually break them when I’m squatting down to work with puppies and smaller dogs. From a dog trainers perspective I feel like the leather is thick enough to add some bite protection, hopefully I won’t test that out! But it’s beautiful leather.
These will be worn daily into the winter so the test will come but I really impressed with the craftsmanship that I can see here and I have faith in them already!
Hope to pick up a pair of the lighter suede shoes some time in the future, they look really comfortable.

Cracking boots. My feet are dry, warm and comfortable in all conditions. They just better and better as you wear them and wax them. It’s a long way off, but it’s also brilliant that they will be economically resolvable when they need it.

I have a question. All my boots wear out on the heels and the uppers are still perfect . Can they be repaired

        • Jane Trueman

Hello Tony, sorry for not getting back earlier, boots have been flyin out. All of our boots can be resoled, a good cobbler who stocks Vibram soles will be able to do this for you or if you can not find a local cobbler pop them back and we will get it done for you, cost about £40.00. Saying that the Vibram sole will take some getting through and important to look after the uppers to keep them supple but never an issue with resoling them. Best Jane

I had already bought and returned two pairs of boots from other manufacturers that were both meant to accommodate my wide feet that have been experiencing neuropathy symptoms (toes which feel like they have been plugged into national grid).

After multiple emails and/or calls with Jane & Mark who went out of their way to provide assistance, and even sent two different pairs of boots in different sizes to see which would fit me best. This even included checking internal measurements across the broadest part of the foot.

Fast forward through a month of dog walks during lockdown and a number of days shooting, picking up & beating in Dorset, Kent & East Sussex, I can only delight in a truly wonderful product. I have never had any of the problems I experienced with wellies and marvel at the comfort they provide across very wet & muddy terrain.

I love the Brontolare 9″ boots and look after them to make sure they will do a job for a long time to come. Great 5 star service with a fabulous product. I am really chuffed with my very comfortable boots and delighted I found a great firm to sell them.

Best wishes for the future. I am sure that I will be back for more boots in the future.

        • Jane Trueman

Hello James, thank you for that, good of you and delighted we got there, keep in touch, so good to hear. Best Jane

Hi Jane had my boots for Christmas and have worn them four times so far, buying the next size up has been fine I just wear an extra pair of socks. I haven’t had any problems and have worn them straight from the box,a good fit and warm and dry. Thank you the size advice when I spoke to you before Christmas, many thanks Sid

        • Jane Trueman

          Hello Sidney,

        Clive

Bought a pair of these at the start of the season and I have to say they are the best boots I’ve ever owned. Given I wearing them the whole day, trudging through heather, streams, bracken and boggy fields, they stay warm, completely dry and totally comfortable. At the end of the day they easily wash down and buff up with leather balm ready for the next weekend. Brilliant and superb value, plus Jane is a star to deal with.

        • Jane Trueman

Awh! Clive, how nice of you, thank you so much. Those boots sound as if they are having the life we designed them for, good of you to drop us a review. Kindest regards Jane

I’ve just received a pair of Brontolare boots after taking advice from Jane, absolutely stunningly made, comfortable and didn’t need to be broken in,
perfect fit from the off. Only thing left to say “If Carlsberg made slippers” Sean M. FitzGerald Lincoln.

Just ordered a second pair as got my first last year, they are the perfect boots for me, wanted a second pair so on really wet days one pair can dry
out whilst I am wearing the other. I would offer my recommendation for these boots they are the best boots I have owned. Ross

I have only given Brandecosse four stars as I really wanted these boots last year but they have only recently started ladies sizes so I had to wait, saying that I am more than pleased with them, oddly they didn’t take any time to wear in, comfortable straight away. Jean from Derby

I am cursed with both wide calves and diminutive stature and find high boots only accentuate these characteristics! However when I tried on these boots at the Scottish Game Fair I was delighted as they were the perfect fit and I look gorgeous in them. Many thanks to Jane and her team as they provided me with true attentive service. Tamsin – Angus

With a large calf getting a good boot has been difficult, these are quite generous, seem to even slim my legs a little. Only gave them four stars as they have been out of stock for a while and I had to wait. Elaine – Cornwall

I was a little worried about buying an expensive item online so called the office and spoke to Jane for advice on sizing, excellent service, the boots
arrived the following day. The quality is just outstanding. Alexander – Fife

I saw these boots at The Scottish Game Fair this year, I was most impressed with the quality of the workmanship but made myself check out the other
stands to see what else was on the market. No other brands stood up to these at the show and quite lot of choice out there, I returned and purchased
a pair of Brontolare. I have been breaking them in over the past weeks with their first proper day out tomorrow with Grouse up in Scotland – more
than impressed with them and the service I got. William Oxford
